PROJECT-BASED LEARNING: IN SEARCH OF AN IDAHO GHOST TOWN

One of our projects for PBL this year was to visit a Ghost Town in Idaho. Students, Jacob, Blanca, Chris, Garry, Epi , Amanda, Melissa and Damon took a fieldtrip in October to Pearl, Idaho. The objective is to incorporate PBL with language arts, history and geography. Not finding the town of Pearl itself, we asked a lady who lives in a nearby house about the town; she told us that the ghost town had disappeared. We were disappointed but we continued to search for any signs of the ghost town, we soon discovered the old gold mine. We took some photos of the gold mines and collected some unique artifacts from the area..

During our next PBL class the students began a project to create a 3-D model of the ghost town. On December 17, 2007 the students will give a school-wide presentation and display their models.
