Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is celebrated nationwide. The Red Ribbon itself now symbolizes a continuing commitment to reducing the demand for illicit drugs within our communities. ISDB celebrated the event from October 23rd to 27th, 2006. Students were excited with the fun activities that were related to anti-drug awareness this week.

Our activities included:

• "Believe in Yourself" with a presentation by Heidi Diehl from the Walker Center
• "I Pledge to be Drug Free" with a flag raising ceremony and everyone tying red ribbons on trees around our campus
• "Reach for the Stars, Not Drugs" with everyone wearing red and a flying paper planes contest.
• "Stomp out Drugs" with everyone stomping balloons which symbolized stomping our drugs.

Our Counselor, Santina Mwarania demonstrated the effects and dangers of smoking on lungs with a "Simulated Smoker's Lung Resource Kit". Students were very curious and it was an educational and fun experience for our students and staff.
