The sports program at ISDB is a great program that gives our students the opportunity to participate in sports. At other schools, these students may not have this opportunity. Both deaf/hard of hearing and visually impaired students come together as one team representing our school. They work hard to build team chemistry, build self-esteem, learn sportsmanship, learn the rules of the game as well as different plays. Most importantly, they have fun. Our teams compete against smaller schools in our area. Most of our students who come here have never had the opportunity to play on a sports’ team. They are excited to be able to participate and have great pride in their accomplishments at the end of each season. We offer volleyball, basketball and track at ISDB. Our school co-ops with the local public high school for soccer and football which means our students play with the public school students on their team.
We just completed the soccor season where our boys’ team finished third in their district. Congratulations, boys! Our girls’ volleyball team recently had the opportunity to travel to Vancouver, Washington, to participate in a volleyball tournament. This was a great opportunity for the girls to make new friendships and re-enforce their volleyball skills.
Our basketball season is getting underway for the girls and the boys will be starting soon. We are looking forward to a great season for players and cheerleaders. Our cheerleaders are under the direction of Kari Dennison. Our boys’ basketball coaches are Ken Anderson and Aditya Sharma and the girls’ will be coached by Deb Maxwell and Jennifer Gregory. We are hoping to start our middle school boys’ basketball program back up this year and look forward to having this group of students out on the basketball court.
Come out and show your support for the kids. The players would love to see you at the games.
Go Raptors! ~Ken Allison, Athletic Director
