Raptors

As we get into the basketball season, ISDB has fielded a boys’ basketball team with many fresh faces.  In a small school like ISDB, it is always a challenge to field a team with sufficient bench strength. What we lack in numbers however, is more than made up for by the strong spirit and competitive attitude shown by the kids. With many of our long-time dino-eye.jpgplayers graduating last year, opportunities were there for new students and first timers to step up and they are doing so with great enthusiasm.

Adam Hunter and Austin Briggs may have never played a basketball game on a team before in their lives but what  wonderful learners they have been.  By the second game ,we already saw lots of improvement in their play.  Senior Epi Calderon and Junior Chris Arroway, as the most experienced players, are patiently leading the team with confidence and maturity. Senior Max Stewart and Sophomore Jeremiah Flemings, the only other two players on the team, are also working hard on improving their all-around skills. All the players are aptly supported by our first-time manager, Sophomore Dylan Germain who is taking the task of keeping the team hydrated very, very seriously.  As the season progresses, we are sure this small group of players will face lots of challenges and frustrations with their minimal bench strength, but they will also come out of this experience as better people, with lots of confidence and self esteem. Watching their bonhomie and positive team rapport in games, practice sessions, and in the dressing room, it is evident that everyone on the team appreciates the opportunity to don ISDB school colors with great pride. Whoever thinks that raptors are extinct have not yet experienced the ferocious roars coming out of our team’s dressing room! --Coaches Anderson and Sharma.
