Idaho School for the Deaf and the Blind

Our counselor provides the following services to (k-12) deaf, hard of hearing, blind, visually impaired and special needs students.

• Implements the counseling curriculum
• Guides individuals and groups of students through the development of educational,personal, social and career plans
• Provides counseling with individuals and small groups of children with problems.
• Provides consultation with teachers, parents, and staff regarding student's needs.
• Provides referrals to students with serious problems and their parents to special programs, specialists and outside agencies.
• Assists students in developing and educational program.
• Assist students in developing stronger family relationships.

Santina manages the ISDB's Natural Helpers program as Facilitator. "The purpose of the Natural Helpers' program is to improve the health and well being of young people through peer listening, education, and referral." Natural Helpers is a program designed to teach friends how to help friends. The students and adults nominated by the student body to be natural helpers, attend a 3-day training session in a retreat setting. At the training they get accurate information and learn helping skills to use with their friends. The retreat is managed by the counselor. We meet once a week to discuss any concerns and follow up the activities that are being conducted by the Natural Helpers.
