The Described and Captioned Media Program provides services to benefit students who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, hard of hearing, or deaf-blind. The DCMP is funded by the US Department of Education and administered by the National Association of the Deaf.

What is captioned media?

Captioned media are video tapes that will play on any VCR, also DVD's and CD's that have all of the usual sound, BUT also have the spoken words printed on your TV or computer screen so that the words can be read while you watch the video, DVD or CD right there in your own home or with others at group events. Lesson Guides Accompany All Educational videos.

Captioning is especially valuable for those of us who are deaf or have a hearing loss of any degree. There are thousands of items available on free loan through the Idaho Captioned Media Program for anyone who has a hearing loss, has someone in the family who has such a loss or is a service provider for any person who has such a loss. Senior citizens always qualify for the use of these items, as increasing age most often brings with it a decrease in our ability to hear.
